Pioneer Day

What a great morning,  rotating through 14 stations.  We made cornbread and butter, used vegetables to paint, made a quilt square that told 'our' story, played pioneer games (marbles, checkers, etc), watched  a black & white video, made a hornbook, estimated popcorn, whittled soap, weaved, and saw pioneer tools.
Thank you so much parent volunteers-without you this day wouldn't have been possible!!

Harvest Party

Thank you to parents who were able to volunteer time or supplies for our party.  We had a great time making spider hats, playing Monster toss & bat bowling, feeling creepy brains, making goop, playing pin the spider on the web and eating treats!

50's Day/50th Day of School

We kicked off our Social Studies unit on History with 1950's Day today!
Students learned that advances in science and technology have changed and continue to change the way people communicate by using artifacts and photographs to see what life was like in the 50's.
Students interviewed someone who lived in the 50's, learned and compared dance moves from then and now, created comic strips using Peanuts characters (Peanut Comic was first introduced in 1950), compared prices of items in the 1950's to now, learned different slang words from the era and most notably made old fashion root beer floats.

Don't forget to send in completed Book It calendars

Book It started this month.  The students were asked to set reading goals for the month of October and a calendar was sent home to record the minutes spent reading at home.  Check out the website for parent activities and to set your goals online. Reading to your child outside of the classroom is one of the most important things you can do for them that will not only benefit them now, but will also invest in their future. Make the promise to establish a daily reading routine at home and "read your hearts out".
